Deciduous shrub to small tree about 5 to 9 m high. Leaves alternate, entire, narrow-elliptic to lanceolate, 10-17 cm cm long 2-4.5 cm wide. Lamina glabrous, dull green above, paler and slightly downy beneath. Inflorescence in terminal erect racemes in July. Beautiful flowers about 3 cm long, bell-shaped with crispate lobes, pale to dark pink with purple veins in the throat.
