Syringa tomentella (40626 bytes)
A strong-growing, wide-spreading shrub, up to 3m high. Young shoots are thin, brownish, a little hairy. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 3 - 10cm long, dark green and corrugated above, light green and a little hairy beneath. Flowers in broad panicles, up to 15cm long and 12cm wide. The flowers are well scented, deep lilac-pink, paling with age. The shrub is flowering in late May and June.
