|Stachyurus praecox Sieb. & Zucc.|
A medium-sized, erect shrub (until 2.5 m high) with hollow, green shoots. The leaves are
opposite, lanceolate to ovate, until 15 cm long. Flowers are white with purple or red bracts.
They are built in drooping, 3-10 cm long panicles in July to September. The fruits are first
reddish- purple, shining, and at last black. Often the shrub freezes down, but is growing up
again in spring.
