Small deciduous shrub 2-3 m high. Young shoots bristly. Leaves odd-pinnate up to 25 cm long. 7-13 leaflets, ovate to oblong, glabrous above and slightly pubescent beneath like on the rachis. Apex obtuse to mucronate. Inflorescence in many-flowered racemes in May-June. Flowers about 2-2.5 cm long, pink-purple. Hardy. Close to and now sometimes includes in Robinia hispida L.
