Medium-sized to large shrub or small deciduous tree. Leaves elliptic to obovate, serrate, 10-25 cm long, 5-13 cm wide. Lamina dark glossy green above with parallel yellow nerves like the midrib, paler beneath with scattered hairs on veins. Foliage mostly turns yellow in autumn. Male flowers are built in long pendulous catkins in May-June. Acorn ovoid, 2-2.5 cm long, covered by the cup on the half of its size. Hardy
