An evergreen, twining plant with alternate, dark green, double or threefold, oblong, entire leaves. Dioecious, chocolate-purple flowers in winter. Male flowers in pendent racemes, female flowers solitary. Sausage-shaped, edible, sweet fruits up to 5-8 cm long.
