Deciduous, dioecious shrub 2-3 m high. Leaves elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, 3.5-10 cm long, 1.5-5 cm wide, rugose and dark shiny green above, glabrous to tomentose beneath. Margin serrate. Small white flowers in clusters at the leaf axils. Fruits bright red, 5-7 mm across, often in pairs. Hardy.
