A large shrub or small spreading tree, until 6 m high. Leaves ovate or elliptic, 5-10 cm long, a little serrate, hairy below; in autumn coloured yellow. In April-May flowering with white, bell-shaped, nodding flowers in clusters of three or five. The fruits are brown, four-winged. They are ornamental during winter.
