Deciduous shrub up to 2 m high. Leaves alternate, ovate to rhomboid-ovate, 4-10 cm long, 2.5-6 cm wide, entire or sometimes three-lobed. Lamina dull green and scabrous above, paler and pubescent beneath. Margin simply or doubly-serrate. Small yellow flowers about 1 cm across, in small hairy umbels in July. Hardy.
