Deciduous climber with pubescent shoots. Leaves opposite, ovate, 4-18 cm long, 2-8 cm wide. Base cordate, apex acute. Lamina dark green and slightly hairy above, whitish and wooly tomentose beneath. Inflorescence in umbels in June. Flowers long stalked, about 1.5 cm across. Corolla with 5 white lobes, with purple spots at base. Fruit is an elongated striate follicle. Only for a sheltered position in cold areas.
