Deciduous shrub up to 3 m high. Youngs twigs tomentose, becoming gray-brown and glabrous later. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 2.5-7 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, dark and dull green above, whitish, wolly tomentose beneath. Base and apex often rounded. Inflorescence in May-June, in nodding wolly clusters with 3-15 pinkish flowers. Fruit subglobose, red, tomentose, about 7-10 mm across. Quite hardy.
