Deciduous shrub to small tree 2-6 m high. Branches brown, glabrous, with short thorns. Leaves elliptic to lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, 2-4 cm wide. Lamina dark lustrous green, margin finely serrate, base cuneate, apex acute to acuminate. 2-3 pinkish to white flowers in small fascicle in March-April. Fruit very conspicuous, short pediceled, 10-15 cm long, heavy, ovoid, dull green. Hardy.
