Deciduous shrub. Leaves alternate, odd-pinnate, long stalked. 3 to 7 leaflets, sessile (except the terminal one), ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 5-13 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, crenulate-serrate, dark green and lustrous above, paler and tomentose along veins beneath. Flowers pink, before the leaves, 4-5 petals, 2,5 cm across, in small clusters. Fruits 3 valved, 4-5 cm wide.
