Deciduous tree, 10-20 m high in the wild, smaller in cultivation.Twigs brown. Pointed buds. Leaves alternate, glabrous, ovate to heart-shaped, pointed at the apex, 7-12 cm long, toothed, with 5-7 prominent veins. Yellowish flowers in pendulous, 10-15 cm long spikes.
