Evergreen or semi-evergreen strong climber. Shoot green, prickly, four-angled. Leaves orbicular (elliptic or ovate for the smaller ones), 4-12 cm long, 2-12 cm wide, base rounded or cordate, apex pointed, glossy green, five nerved. Flowers greenish-yellow, in umbels. Fruit globose, black, pruinose. Hardy.
