Evergreen climber shrub. Cladode glabrous, dark green, ovate-lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, acuminate, leathery, at the axils of the leaves which are reduced to unconspicuous scales. Yellowish small flowers in fascicule on the surface or on the margin of the cladode. Fruit globose about 1 cm across. Tender only for the mildest areas.
