Deciduous small tree. Leaves alternate, elliptic to obovate, 7-22 cm long, 4-11 cm wide, light green and glabrous above, paler and pubescent beneath, especially on nerves. Margin bristle-toothed. Apex shortly pointed. White flowers, slightly fragant, about 1.5 cm long, in pubescent and leafy panicles about 10-25 cm long in May-June. Fruit ten-winged, covered by yellow-brown hairs. Hardy.
