Evergreen tree in the wild. Leaves alternate, elliptic to oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, 8-25 cm long, 3-10 cm wide, entire, tough, glabrous, shining green above, paler beneath. Green to yellowish flowers in terminal panicles. Fruits elliptic 1,5-2 cm long, black when ripe. Tender, only for the Mediterranean coast.
