Evergreen small shrub of slow growth. Leaves opposite, elliptic to ovate, tough, 2-6 cm long, 1-2.5 cm wide, dark glossy green above, paler beneath, glabrous, slightly serrate. Flowers long stalked, white, fragant, in terminal or axillary fascicles in April-May. Corolla tube (4-5 mm) as long as lobes. Hardy.
