Deciduous large shrub. Leaves obovate to elliptic, dark green and glabrous above, glaucous and silghtly downy beneath, 5-15 cm long, 5-10 cm wide. Apex pointed, base rounded. Flower fragant, axillary, nodding, cup-shaped, 6-10 cm across, on a long pubescent stalk, with 6 tepals and numerous conspicuous red-crimson stamens. Blooming from May to August. Hardy.
