Deciduous shrub. Twigs glabrous. Leaves alternate, elliptic to obovate 4-13 cm long, 3-7.5 cm wide, bright green above, paler and glaucous beneath, aromatic when crushed. Apex acute, base cuneate. Flowers greenish-yellow about 5 mm across, in axillary clusters. Fruit ovate, shiny red. Quite hardy.
