Small deciduous shrub about 2-3 m high. Young twigs downy and purplish at first. Leaves thin, glabrous when mature, elliptic to ovate, 2-6.5 cm long, 1-3.5 cm wide, dull green above, gray-green beneath. Apex obtuse and mucronate. Inflorescence with 3 to 9 pink flowers about 9-10 mm across in May-June. Fruits subglobose, 7 mm across, red with two seeds. Quite hardy.
