Evergreen small shrub 1.5-2 m high with drooping branches. Young shoots covered with hispid red-brown hairs. Leaves ovate to oblong, 0.7-2 cm long, 0.25-0.75 cm wide, shining green with some hairs above, paler & pubescent beneath. Petiole 3 mm long, hairy. Solitary white flower, with flattened petals, in May. Anthers purplish. Fruit ovoid 8-10 mm across, shining red, with 2 seeds.
