Deciduous scandent shrub. Twigs glabrous, with strong retorse prickles 6-8 mm long, very dangerous! Leaves 20-40 cm bipinnate, prickly on rachis and petiole. Pinnae 3-8 pairs, carrying 6-10 pairs of leaflets. Leaflets oblong to obovate, glabrous, dull green above, whitish beneath. Flowers in terminal raceme 20-30 cm long in May-June. Corolla 25-35 mm across, canary yellow, upper petal smaller and striped with red.
