Deciduous climber with annual shoots. Leaves stalked, odd pinnate, slightly pubescent, up to 30 cm long. 5-7 (9) leaflets ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 3-12 cm long, 1.5-4.5 cm wide. Base rounded, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in dense axillary racemes from August to September. Flowers purplish-brown about 1-1.5 cm long. Quite hardy.
