Brazil, Maranhão, São Luis, "Ilha de São Luis" (city of São Luis)., 2° 30' S, 44° 15' W The island, formerly covered by forests, nowadays shows mainly low secondary vegetation ("Capoeira") and shrubby open places. The "Babassu-palm" (Orbignya martiana) is a prominent element, especially in secondary growth.
